Peter Mason, B.Sc., D.O.
Peter graduated from the London School of Osteopathy in 1993, achieving the award of Student of the Year. After gaining experience with other osteopaths, working both privately and within the NHS in the days when GPs could offer osteopathy in their practices, Peter settled in Purley.
He has a particular interest in sports injuries, knowing what a lot of them feel like having played rugby in his youth. As well as the physical side of sport, his background includes the mental approach, having practised and coached archery at county level. The spiritual aspect he now addresses through Tai Chi.
Peter's approach to osteopathic treatment is mainly structural. Following the principle that "Structure Governs Function", if you can't function properly it's very likely that there is something wrong with your structure.
He also believes that given a start in the right direction, the body knows how to look after itself. Towards this, when you come for treatment, he doesn't automatically get you back time and time again, but lets you decide what you need.
Peter spent a few years lecturing in biomechanics at the LSO, but a growing practice demanded more time, so reluctantly he had to give up the teaching. As for all osteopaths, Peter undertakes a number of hours training each year to fulfil the need for continuing professional development.
Osteopathy is Peter's second career. His first was in IT, working for large companies. In his 30's he had his "mid-life crisis" and changed career. He still maintains an interest in IT by building computers and recycling them for charity, along with being a help desk for many "silver surfers".
